Could someone please tell me what bird and fish life exists
at Sandspit ? |
Extensive surveys have been carried out over the past few years and you may be
very surprised to learn that Godwits, Banded Rail, and many endangered bird species find
Sandspit an abundant feeding ground. Endangered fish species such as short & long fin
eels etc can be found in the Brick Bay Stream which empties into the Sandspit Estuary by
the Yacht Club. |

Hi there ... When will a Marina be developed in Sandspit ? |
Sandfly responds ... What Marina ? |
| 31.07.11 |
"Which exact questions were considered biased in the
2010 community survey? The 2004 survey seems to include all the same questions except one
on the marina proposal." |
Awaiting answer to this question. |
| 31.07.11 |
Why did the 2011 SRRA committee withdraw the 2010 community
survey from their website?" |
2011 SRRA Chair replies: " ...because we felt that the questions within
were biased and upset numbers of residents who did not bother filling in the
questionnaire." |
| 31.07.11 |
Are paid up members of of the Ratepayers' Association allowed
to attend Committee meetings to listen to what is being discussed ? |
Apparently not, according to the Chairman of the SRRA. He advises us
that the Association has consulted Legal Advice and the advice is, that because the
Committee has been "elected democratically" to represent members, they then have
the power to hold committee meetings in private. |
| 31.07.11 |
Sorry ... I thought Democracy was based on openess. Am I
wrong to think that a small 200 member community organisation is now controlled by people
wanting to "hide something" ? |
Obviously, being a committee almost 100% pro marina, they do not want the
"boat rocked" so to speak. |

Hi there .... As a member of the Sandspit Residents and
Ratepayers Association, how come there is absolutley no mention of the marina development
in their latrest newsletter |
The Sizzler Responds ....Yes, the answer is clear. The Ratepayers Assoc has been taken over
by pro marina people who don't want to face up to the fact that the marina development is
indeed, the very issue that is set to destroy our beautiful harbour and estuary. So they
disguise the issue by focusing on all the other issues that affect our community that the
past Committee had established and put in place. Note also, that there is no mention of
the restoration project for Dean's Island ... in fact, I think they simply want to abandon
all the good work put in by the outgoing committee, because it stands in the way of the
marina development... |

"I suggest you
get your facts straight, as I think you will find that there are a quite a few new
committee members that in fact ARE NOT marina society members. Instead of a one
sided biased committee those who put themselves forward were simply seeking some balance!!
The previous committee obviously had their own agenda, which was not representing
the views of the ENTIRE community!" |
Sandfly responds ...Indeed! Let's get some
facts straight.
There was a request from your emailer for balance and he/she believes that the make-up of
the 2011 committee has achieved balance. The SRRA was set up originally to oppose a marina on
the east side of the spit. The current SRRA committee will do its best to turn your
beloved Sandspit into a car and boat park.
Here's a dictionary
meaning of balance:
balance;" the difference in magnitude between opposing forces or influences." |

Hi there ...why do you anti marina people keep calling us
developers ? If you live in Sandspit, surely you should be happy that property values will
increase as a result of this boat marina. Thats progress isn't it? |
Sandfly responds....Sandspit is my home.It is the place I love to be, where I want to grow
old, where I want to see the trees I planted flourish and the soil provide my food, where
I find peace and pleasure. It is not a commodity for mere trade.
A Real Estate/ Developer looks at land as just an object for trade and
profit. When land values go up, rates go up too.Only the wealthy prosper further in this
mad merry-go-round.
Real Estate developers and marina developers are in a rat race believing
that those who die with the most toys, win the race. But, the problem with the rat race, is
that at the end you are still a rat. |

The Sizzler responds ..... "First up .... you have to define progress. As a resident
of Sandspit, I don't want progress if it means our magnificent natural environment is
destroyed for the sake of a few large gas guzzling boats.
Secondly, anyone who develops and destroys a naturally beautiful harbour and coastline by
dredging out 100,000 cubic metres of mud for a man made boat marina, and in the process,
takes over all available public reserve for car and trailer parking, is a developer of the
worst kind.... and that certainly ain't progress." |
Sandfly responds:.... Here is the 2011 make-up of committee members and the
opinion of each on this one question of a marina at Sandspit.
To ascertain allegiances I referred to the RDC Hearings Document which shows
the position of each submitter.
I also referred to the SYC membership list along with a presumably correct list of SYCMS
members.
New Chair of SRRA. Submitter
pro-marina. SYCMS member seeking a berth.
New Secretary. Submitter pro-marina. SYC member.
Treasurer. SYCMS member, berth seeker.
Committee Member: SYC member. Neutral on marina.
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina.
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina. SYCMS member. (Real Estate Sales)
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina, SYC member.
Committee Memberl: Submitter pro-marina, SYCMS member.
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina. SYC member. (Property Developer)
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina. SYC member. (Wife of Above Property Developer)
Committee Member: SYC member, submitter pro-marina but has changed her mind and
withdrawn from SYCMS.
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina. SYC member.
Committee Member: Submitter pro-marina SYC member.(Parents-in-law SYCMS)
Now ,let's look at the percentages for the 2011 committee compared with 2010 committee and the survey on proposed
marina question
Balance ....Yeah right ! |
