| 1. Developers want
to dredge 100,000 cubic metres from our eco sensitive estuary, removing the quality
feeding and resting habitat for our shorebirds. So they will leave? 2. Constant
noise levels during the 12-24 month construction period are permitted to be 70 dBA, rising
to 85 dBA and higher for short periods of time., for up to 10 hours a day, six days a
week.
3. Heavy construction traffic will use Sandspit Road causing damage to the surface and
verges and adding to the dangers of a narrow winding road.
4. It will no longer be possible to swim or kayak in the area planned for the marina.
5. Access to a marina would be restricted to berth owners. Locked gates would keep all
others away without special permission. You will only be able to walk in `designated
areas`.
6. Parking in Sandspit will become an increasing problem and eyesore as more land is
used to provide space for cars - not walking; certainly not wildlife.
7. If you chose to live in Sandspit you dont need to be reminded that it is one
of the most sought after areas. Commercial development will make it less so. |
8. Ongoing dredging
for the next 35 years will mean the sight and sound of heavy barges , not shorebirds, will
become synonymous with Sandspit. 9. Those with a vested interest in the marina have
taken over your ratepayers organisation. They needed to do this to ease the way for future
development. They do not represent the views of our community.

If you feel the
future of Sandspit is at risk,
there are three things that you can do :
a) Attend the next Special General Meeting of the ratepayers
organisation to demand they uphold the views expressed by residents in the recent survey.
b) Email the Chairman of SRRA, Alex Fowler, and ask why
the
results of the Residents' Survey have been removed from their
website.
